Bring ‘thali’ and ‘chamach’ to Jantar Mantar protest tomorrow, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke asks supporters. Today’s news

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke has urged his supporters to bring ‘thali’ (plate) and ‘chamach’ (spoon) while participating in a planned protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Saturday 20 June.

“All cockroaches joining the protest at Jantar Mantar tomorrow should carry thali and chamach. You know the rest of the story,” Dipke said in a video shared by the CJP on social media.

The youth-led movement said it secured permission from the Delhi Police for its June 20 protest at Jantar Mantar seeking the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak controversy and exam-related issues. The protest is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Why Thali and Chamach?

The phrase “Thali” and “Chamach” refers to the famous nationwide “Thali Bajao” (plate and spoon banging) initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the COVID-19 on 22 March 2020.

During the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for a Janata curfew and asked citizens to go out on their balconies and beat their plates (thalis) with spoons (chamachas) for 5–10 minutes.

The nationwide exercise was designed as a show of collective gratitude to the doctors, medical staff, police and essential workers who risk their lives on the front lines.

Dipke had earlier warned of an indefinite sit-in if the movement’s demands were not met. However, the organization did not comment on the proposed open-ended protest in its latest statement announcing the police permit for the June 20 demonstration.

CJP emerged as a youth-led online movement campaigning on issues such as examination irregularities, unemployment and recruitment delays. The group rose to prominence through social media campaigns and has since organized protests and outreach programs in several parts of the country.

The CJP’s first protest at Jantar Mantar seen by thousands on June 6. Similar protests were later held in other states such as Lucknow, Pune, Bengaluru, Amritsar and Nagpur, demanding Pradhan’s resignation.

All the cockroaches joining tomorrow’s protest at Jantar Mantar should have thali and chamach with you.

The CJP has focused its campaign on the alleged flaws in the education and examination system, particularly the controversies surrounding entrance exams like NEET, and is demanding the resignation of the Union Education Minister. Dharmendra Pradhan.
