Why Sonam Wangchuk told Abhijeet Dipke to ‘shut up’ during Jantar Mantar hunger strike; CJP Founder Reveals | Today’s news
The Delhi High Court on Thursday ordered government doctors to conduct daily health checks on activist Sonam Wangchuk amid growing concerns among his supporters over his condition after nearly three weeks of hunger strike at the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar in the state capital.
The 59-year-old activist has been on an indefinite fast since June 28, calling for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in the entrance medical examination system, along with a wider set of education reforms.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke recalled a funny conversation with Sonam Wangchuk when the activist told him to “shut up” after Dipke told him to use a wheelchair to go to the toilet in his weakness. Wangchuk said he would walk as he was able, Dipke said.
Reflecting on his bond with Wangchuk, he stated “it’s like a parent and a child”. Wangchuk told him not to worry about him and instead focus on the people who were coming to the protest site, Dipke shared.
“Right now it’s like a parent and a child. Because he’s very tired. So when I go on stage, I make sure that like you walk slowly outside your parents’ bedroom, I walk so that he’s not disturbed. So that his eyes don’t open my steps. And sometimes he scolds me. Like he scolded me yesterday,” Dipke told Hook Newsfeed.
“I said, sir, ‘I’m very worried about you. You’re getting weak. You should use a wheelchair for the washroom.’ He said, ‘no, no’. But I insisted. I said, ‘If you want to use it, you have to use it’. He shouted: ‘Shut up’. He said, ‘I won’t do it. Don’t worry about me. You focus on the protest. You care about the people who come to protest. don’t worry about me I’m totally fine. And I don’t want you to install a wheelchair for me. i will walk I am capable of that,” Dipke added.
Sonam Wangchuk Health Update
Wangchuk lost more than nine kilograms on the 19th day of his indefinite hunger strike, with doctors warning on Thursday that he had entered a critical phase of the prolonged fast and that his organs could soon start to affect him.
The medical update came hours after Wangchuk made it clear in a video message released late Wednesday that he would not end his fast despite repeated calls from political leaders and supporters. He said calling off the protest without any response from the government would send a wrong message. Instead, he urged people to support the CJP’s planned parliamentary march on July 20.
Farmers leader Rakesh Tikait, former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal visit Jantar Mantar
Meanwhile, support for Wangchuk’s campaign continued to grow. Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait has announced that he will visit him at Jantar Mantar on Thursday evening, while former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal is expected to meet Wangchuk at the protest site today.
Music composer Vishal Dadlani, actor Sayaji Shinde and author Shobhaa De urged the government to open a dialogue with the activist, expressing concern over his deteriorating health.
