CJP Protest: Abhijeet Dipke Urges Sonam Wangchuk To Quit Quickly, Oppn To Meet Him Too - 'He Will Carry This Movement Forward'

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has asked activist Sonam Wangchuk to end his hunger strike. Wangchuk has been fasting for 25 days and is currently in Medanta Hospital

“Your sacrifice has inspired an entire generation. We respectfully request you to end your fast and take care of your health. We promise that the fight for justice will continue with even more vigor until our demands are met,” the CJP said in its request.

“We will continue this movement,” he said.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke also asked Wangchuk to end the fast.

Earlier, Wangchuk said he would end his fast if members of parliament and political party leaders assured him that the issue of accountability in the education sector would be discussed during the monsoon session of parliament.

However, following the police crackdown on protesters during the Cockroach Janta Party’s ‘Sansad Chalo’ march, the activist announced that he would continue his fast until such an assurance was given.

On 28 June, the climate activist joined the CJP-led agitation at Jantar Mantar and started an indefinite hunger strike in support of students demanding accountability for alleged examination irregularities, reforms in the education system and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

A delegation of opposition MPs will visit Sonam Wangchuk at Gurugram’s Medanta Hospital to persuade him to end his 25-day fast and assure him that questions on alleged irregularities in competitive exams and accountability in education will be raised in Parliament, sources said on Tuesday.

The delegation will urge the activist, who has been on an indefinite hunger strike for the past 25 days, to end his fast after assuring him that the opposition will take up the matter in Parliament, sources said.

Congress Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha, TMC Rajya Sabha MP Sagarika Ghose and CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas will be among those who will meet Wangchuk, according to sources.

Wangchuk, who was forcibly taken to Safdarjung Hospital by the Delhi Police on July 18, was shifted to Medanta Hospital on the orders of the Delhi High Court.
