Soon after Hyderabad native Syed Sohail Uddin, originally from Toli Chowki, was allegedly stabbed multiple times in Salt Lake County, Utah, USA, Majlis Bachao Tahreek (MBT) leader Amjed Ullah Khan wrote to Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar seeking his immediate intervention.

According to a West Valley City Police X report, the incident occurred on July 14 when the suspect approached Mr. Sohail and after a “brief interaction” “pulled out a knife and began stabbing him several times.” Bystanders pulled the accused away from the victim and subdued him, police said. Mr. Sohail underwent surgery.

“We are investigating all possible motives and any possible relationship between the suspect and the victim,” police said. US media identified the suspect as Peter Michael Larsen and said Mr Sohail was attacked because of his religion.

Mr Khan, a former corporator, said in his letter to the Union minister that Mr Sohail has been working in the US for about two years. He told the media that he met Mr. Sohail’s family and inquired about his welfare.

The MBT leader asked Mr. Jaishankar to instruct the Embassy of India in Washington, DC to contact Mr. Sohail and provide him with all necessary consular assistance, liaise with authorities in Utah to ensure justice, provide legal and medical assistance and ensure the protection of Indian citizens, especially those belonging to vulnerable and minority communities. He also sought visas for Mr. Sohail’s family members on humanitarian grounds.
