A man from Gujarat has been in the limelight ever since he shared a video on social media of himself submerged in neck-deep water outside his apartment building in Valsad. After overnight rains, the premises around Akshardham Residency were flooded, creating a canal-like view of the streets and lanes.
An Instagram picture shared on July 23 has gone viral, showing a Bandhan Bank employee alone in a waterlogged street outside his company. Despite the gruesome scene, an undaunted man can be seen playfully filming the situation in the early hours of around 7am. This video has accumulated more than 31 thousand likes and several comments in less than 24 hours.
In the clip, he can be heard saying in Hindi, “This is my company, guys.” He added: “We have just opened a new river in our company.”
According to a Hindustan Times report, a man named Shivam Singh is an employee of Bandhan Bank who had to take a day off due to high water levels. According to the report, the suffering of the residents of the company was not limited to severe waterlogging, the crisis was accompanied by two days of power failure.

The bank employee praises the quick response of the rescue teams
The waterlogging left Shivam Singh helpless, unable to commute and leave for work amid a red alert by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). “I couldn’t reach my workplace, I work in Bandhan Bank and I had my keys with me but because of that I couldn’t get in,” Hindustan Times quoted Singh as saying. According to the report, he praised the quick response of the authorities in handling the situation and later confirmed that the level had dropped.
According to the banker, the local authorities, the government and the NDRF team helped the locals to safety during this “natural calamity” and ensured adequate provision of food and relocation. Help was not limited to people, agencies even rescued dogs. “Our local society team and our own neighbors also helped each other by moving the vehicles to higher places where there was no water. And we also cooked tea and snacks for everyone in the society as there was no light for almost 2 days,” added Singh, as quoted by HT.
Even the Ahmedabad traffic police issued a travel advisory on Thursday to warn commuters of road blockades and closures following torrential rains. Several underpasses and crossings including Akhbarnagar, Makarba, Mithachali, Kubernagar, Parimal, Shahibaug, Jalaram, Dakshini, Usmanpura, Kaligam, Naranpura, Vastrapur (LC-20), Vejalpur (LC-22), Chandkheda and GST-1C3LC were closed on 23 July due to heavy waterlogging.
