PM Modi promises ‘stricter action against paper leaks’ amid CJP protests

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday (July 23, 2026) promised “stricter” action against paper leaks as CJP-led protests continue over alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG 2026 examination.

In a self-recorded video shared on X, the prime minister announced that the Union Cabinet would pass a bill that would provide for fast-track trials and stiff punishments for offenders. he said “I have issued instructions to the departments to set up fast track courts”

The opposition is demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and a detailed discussion on the NEET paper leak issue in the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament, with the controversy sparking protests both inside and outside the House.

Along with the video, the Prime Minister wrote: “Tougher measures against paper leaks coming in tomorrow’s Cabinet!”

In the video, Mr. Modi said, “Friends, I know that paper leaks are not a common thing. It is extremely painful for millions of students and their parents. And that’s why some major steps have been taken in the last two and a half months since the paper leak incidents. The culprits have been caught, they are currently in jail,” he said.

The prime minister said, “Our most important responsibility was to ensure that the entire year was not wasted for the students. It was very important to conduct the exams immediately. The government used its full strength to arrange the exams for nearly 22 million students in the shortest possible time. And just five or six days ago, on the 19th, the results were also announced. The news of the happiness of successful students is coming from all over the country.”

Emphasizing that the government will not stop there, Prime Minister Modi said, “However, we are not among those who are happy with it. That is why I have today directed the ministries to set up fast-track courts. The departments have been working tirelessly and have provided me with a proposal late last night. This proposal, which includes provisions for fast-track trials and severe punishment, will be discussed in the Cabinet tomorrow.

The Prime Minister further stated: “It will be given its final form after incorporating proposals from Cabinet colleagues. Efforts will be made to pass this proposal in the House as soon as possible, as the second week of the Parliament session begins on Monday.”

Mr. Modi said, “Nothing is more important than the welfare and future of our youth! Those who try to harm the future of our youth will not be spared.”

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi broke his silence on the controversy and announced that the government would set up fast-track courts to ensure swift punishment of those involved in the exam paper leak.
