A road incident on Gurugram’s Golf Course Road caught the attention of the police after a motorcyclist shared footage showing her motorcycle being hit by a car. The incident, in which the driver of the car was supposed to chase and eventually hit the bike, took place on Sunday morning.
The matter came to light after the rider, who identifies herself as Sia and runs the Instagram account rebelwheels_sia_, posted a video of the incident along with her description of what happened. Footage captured by cameras mounted on motorcycles of her and her friends has since been widely shared on social media.
The Gurugram police said on Monday that they are examining the available footage to ascertain the exact location of the crash and determine which police station has jurisdiction in the case.
Sandeep Turan, public relations officer of Gurugram Police, told Hindustan Times, “The police are verifying the exact location of the accident on Golf Course Road using video to the jurisdiction of the police station so that necessary legal action can be taken.”
The woman claims she was being chased by a car before the accident
According to Sia, she was riding her Aprilia sport bike with a group of friends when a white sedan came dangerously close to her. She claimed the driver then signaled her to stop.
“He started giving chase on Golf Course Road. I asked him to drive and keep his distance. He kept gesturing with his hands for me to stop the bike,” she said.
Sia further claimed that the occupants of the car were drunk, although this remains an allegation and police have not independently established this.
She said she tried to stay away from the vehicle while one of her friends tried to stop the car from getting close enough to catch her.
“My friend was trying to cover it while driving so the car couldn’t come up to me and stop, but it hit me,” she said.
Footage appears to show the impact throwing the rider onto the road, her body being dragged several feet as the bike skidded.
The driver reportedly fled the scene
Sia said one of her friends managed to catch the car at a traffic light after the accident. However, she claimed the driver sped up.
She also shared the vehicle registration details online.
The Gurugram police said that there was no notification to the police dispatch center or any written complaint from the woman immediately after the incident.
Turan said police will try to contact the rider and get a formal complaint.
“The police will try to approach her to file a written complaint and register a first information report (FIR) to arrest the driver of the car that hit her,” he added.
Sia, who shared the incident online, wrote, “I have nothing to say but today I did not feel safe on the roads of Gurugram. Such people are not afraid to hit people and run away.”
