Gurugram road rage case: Accused Kalyan Bainsla arrested, police add charge of attempted murder | Today’s news
Kalyan Bainsla, accused of hitting a motorcyclist with his vehicle in an apparent hit-and-run on a road in Haryana’s Gurugram, has been arrested, ANI reported.
Gurugram police formed three teams to nab him.
The police added charges under Section 109 of the BNS (attempted murder) against Bainsl. The section is punishable by up to 10 years in prison. Earlier, Gurugram police took suo motu into the case and registered a case at Sector-56 police station. Bainsla was previously booked under sections 78 (stalking) and 79 (word, gesture or act intended to offend the modesty of a woman).
On Sunday, Bainsla allegedly rammed his friend’s Maruti Ciaz car into the female motorcyclist from the side. Motorcyclist Shivani Chauhan, identified as Sia, was knocked off her bike and skidded several meters on Gurugram’s Golf Course Road.
Sia later shared a video of the incident on Instagram, captured by a camera mounted on her motorcycle, and provided details.
In her post, Sia wrote that she was riding her Aprilia RS 457 sport bike with a group of bikers when a car started following them. She claimed Bainsla, who she accused of being drunk, approached her and began to misbehave before crashing into her bike.
Sia suffered a knee injury
The victim said in a media interview on Tuesday that she suffered knee injuries as a result of the fall. “I’m thankful to God that I was wearing riding boots and riding gloves. If I hadn’t been wearing riding boots and gloves, the impact on my hand could have even broken my shoulder. I could have broken my leg,” she said.
Sia said Bainsla didn’t stop for a second after he hit her with his car. “I am ashamed of such people. Women do not feel safe on the roads of Delhi and Gurugram,” she added.
A second video of the incident has also surfaced. The video was captured by the camera of another rider who was following him.
The defendant says he lost control of the vehicle
While talking to PTI, the accused Bainsla admitted that the accident was his fault but denied hitting her intentionally, saying he “lost control near a bend”.
“About 20 to 22 motorcyclists passed me. I didn’t realize there was a young woman on one of the motorcycles, I just asked her and the young man accompanying her to slow down. I didn’t hit them on purpose,” he said.
Gym owner and “international kabaddi player” Bainsla deactivated his Instagram following the incident. While he claimed he was traveling with his sister and two cousins, Sia said there were no women in the car at the time of the incident.
Naveen Bainsla, counsel for the accused, defended him. He termed the Gurugram accident as a case of negligence and speeding. He rejected the drink-driving claim and said both the bikers and Bainsla were at fault.
