An Indian living in Australia shared the benefits of getting paid every two weeks is always better than getting paid once a month. He advocated fortnightly or fortnightly salaries and said this payment cycle improved his financial management.
A man named Sarthak Dhingra took to social media to share his experience with Australia’s fortnightly pay cycle. The text on the Instagram video said: “A fortnight’s salary is better than a month’s salary”.
Reflecting on how 24 pay stubs a year instead of 12 helped him manage his finances more effectively, he said, “I can never go back.” The video opens with Dhingra saying, “Random thought on a random day of the week. You know what happened today? I got paid today. And I realized – I’m in Australia and my salary gets credited every 15 days. So I realized this thing: I can never go back to a place where you get paid once a month. And I’ll tell you why.”
He disproved the notion that one tends to spend more when the salary is credited twice a month. Instead, he argued, increasing the frequency of wage payments does the opposite—it improves financial management and encourages savings.
Acknowledging the benefits of fortnightly salary payments, Dhingra can be heard saying: “Because I think a lot of people think that if you get paid every 15 days – which means you get paid – you tend to spend more. But I feel like I’m able to manage my money properly. For example, I can save my money, I can invest somewhere, I can manage my expenses.”
Dhingra went on to note that the pay cycle may not be the same across all industries in Australia, but fortnightly pay is common in most industries in his experience. He added: “And yes, maybe it doesn’t happen in all industries, but most of the time in Australia it’s like this – your salary is credited every two weeks. So I think it’s a very good thing.”
At the end of the video, he elaborated on why he prefers the fortnightly regime over the monthly regime, saying: “You get paid 12 times a year. Instead, it doubles – it comes 24 times. And you can manage all your expenses and everything.”
