Telangana police officer suspended for letting six-year-old granddaughter drive Guinness World Records car | Viral Video | Today’s news
The Telangana police suspended a police officer after a video of him letting his six-year-old granddaughter drive the car on the busy Gandhamguda-Bairagiguda road in Narsinga went viral on social media. The officer, Pujari Tirupathi, sub-inspector of the Hyderabad city police, was also booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act and the Motor Vehicles Act.
A video of the incident, which took place on Saturday, went viral on Sunday, after which Telangana DGP CV Anand ordered Tirupathi’s suspension and detachment from the department.
In the video, a minor girl is seen driving the car while Tirupathi sits beside her with his hand on the steering wheel.
‘My grandfather is SI’
The videos also showed that a car driven by a minor girl caused a traffic delay on Gandhamguda–Bairagiguda. When confronted, the girl initially tried to defend herself, saying, “My grandfather is SI.”
Tirupathi was also dismissive and claimed that it was an automatic car and that he was in control of the vehicle all the time.
He even claimed that he was preparing her to attempt to enter the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s youngest female driver.
After a brief confrontation, the minor girl moved to the back seat of the vehicle and Tirupathi took the driver’s seat as other people joined in on the reckless act of the police officer.
Officer suspended, booked
In view of the incident, the Cyberabad traffic police said on social media that a case under Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 184 and 180 of the Motor Vehicle Act has been registered against Pujari Thirupathi for allowing a minor to drive a vehicle within Narsingi police station limits.
It was later posted on Telangana DGP’s official X account that the officer has been suspended and a departmental inquiry has been initiated against him.
