A Mumbai man’s heartfelt gesture went viral at a time when the Delhi Police used force and unleashed the use of lathis and tear gas to control and quell the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protesters. Protesters demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and reforms in education led the ‘Chalo Sansad’ protest march on Monday, July 21, the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament.
A Maharashtrian civilian named Anuj Rawat has been in the limelight since a video surfaced showing a Zomato delivery driver carrying a food parcel at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar for the same CJP protesters who were beaten and brutalized during their agitation. In the viral video, the rider is heard explaining that he had received a delivery note which said, “Please give this food to whoever looks hungry at Jantar Mantar.”
This simple gesture and act of kindness from a man who lives miles away in the capital of Maharashtra has taken the internet by storm. While many appreciated and praised the heartfelt gesture, others hailed it as a symbol of “humanity”.

What happened during the CJP protest on Monday?
The Delhi Police on Monday invoked Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) in the New Delhi area in connection with the monsoon session of Parliament. Restrictive orders were in place in New Delhi district except for a designated protest site on Jantar Mantar Road. According to the police, neither the CJP sought nor was granted any permission for any proposed march to Parliament on July 20.
The police claimed that the protesters not only tried to break the barricades but also threw stones and other objects at the officials. The police further claimed that the mob vandalized police and government vehicles and damaged public property. About 60 protesters were injured in the clashes, according to Delhi Police.
Speaking to ANI, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anand Kumar Mishra said, “Around 115 to 120 policemen were injured. Several senior officers were injured and I also sustained an injury on my hand. Investigation is on and an FIR is being registered. Further legal action will follow based on the investigation.”
