Tech woman jumps to death from 6th floor with 6-month-old daughter in Hyderabad; the child survives | Today’s news

A 37-year-old techie jumped to her death from the 6th floor of an apartment here, carrying her six-month-old baby in her arms in Hyderabad’s Miyapur. The child miraculously survived.

According to police, the deceased, identified as Esha Sahu, jumped out of the flat on Friday evening, leading to her death on the spot. However, her young daughter survived.

Hailing from Madhya Pradesh, Esha was employed in the software sector. Her husband, also from MP, also works in the software industry.

The miraculous survival of a baby

The 6-month-old baby reportedly landed on the cables of the apartment’s solar fence. The child was taken to hospital with minor injuries and her condition is not life-threatening, police said Saturday.

The guard of a nearby apartment, who heard the child, pulled her out.

“The child survived by landing on the cables and hanging,” police told PTI.

“The infant survived due to a lucky sequence of events after falling on the fence structure. The child is receiving medical attention and is stable,” NDTV reported, citing a police source.

Sequence of events

The woman allegedly sent her husband to a store before taking the extreme step, police said. “She jumped from the flat with her child before her husband returned,” a police official told PTI.

Other family members were in the apartment at the time. The incident was reported on Friday at 3:45 p.m.

The deceased woman was survived by her husband and two daughters — 8-year-old Vidi and 6-month-old Vani. The couple has been married for 13 years.

Esha Sahu suffered from postpartum depression

Esha had been suffering from severe insomnia, anxiety and symptoms of postpartum depression since the birth of her daughter six months ago, police sources told NDTV.

The police registered the case and started an investigation.

“We have registered a case and started investigation. Preliminary investigation shows that the woman was going through mental stress, but the exact circumstances are being verified,” a police official told NDTV.

The Miyapur police have handed over the body for post-mortem.

Further investigation is underway.
