Telangana celebrates Freedom 250, renames road as Donald Trump Avenue
Earlier this week, Telangana CM and Sergio Gor jointly unveiled a plaque commemorating the renaming of the road adjacent to the US Consulate in Hyderabad to ‘Donald Trump Avenue’ during a reception to mark the 250th anniversary of US independence, ANI reported.
The unveiling took place on Tuesday during the “Freedom 250” event, held to mark the anniversary of the United States’ milestone, which brought together senior diplomats, government officials and leaders from the business, aerospace, defense and technology sectors.
The event was chaired by Sergio Gor and Deputy Chief Minister Vikramarka. The event highlighted the growing strategic and economic partnership between New Delhi and Washington. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and US Consul General in Hyderabad Laura Williams also attended the celebration.
Addressing the event, Gor appreciated Hyderabad’s growing importance in bilateral relations and highlighted the region’s contribution to strategic cooperation. He added: “Nowhere is the high-speed trajectory of our partnership more evident than in Hyderabad. From HITEC City to aerospace and defence, this region represents the progress that defines our bilateral dynamic.”
The US ambassador to India also mentioned economic cooperation between Delhi and Washington, adding: “With our interim trade agreement and India’s mission on track to bring more than $20 billion in new investment to the United States, we are proving that America first is not just America.”

Why did the Telangana government propose renaming the road?
The decision to rename the road represents the first step in a wider initiative to name significant roads after personalities and organizations that are recognized worldwide. The proposal to rename the road adjacent to the consulate was announced by CM Revanth Reddy’s government last year. The government then announced that a key road near the United States Consulate General in Hyderabad would be renamed ‘Donald Trump Avenue’.
The Revanth Reddy government has launched an initiative to name key roads after globally recognized personalities and organizations as part of its efforts to position Telangana as a hub for innovation-based development.
Officials said the program seeks to showcase the state’s engagement with international leaders, companies and institutions while underscoring its emphasis on infrastructure and economic growth.
List of other roads renamed in Telangana
In addition to Donald Trump Avenue, the state government also decided to rename some other roads. This includes renaming the upcoming greenfield radial road in the proposed RRR in honor of the late industrialist Ratan Tata, PTI reported.
Additionally, the Telangana government has said that a prominent stretch will be named ‘Google Street’ to recognize the global impact and contribution of Google and Google Maps. The road along Google’s upcoming campus, to be the largest outside the US, in Hyderabad’s financial district will get the nod.
