
Asia Cup Final India vs Pakistan New Delhi: The Sports Ministry has maintained its sports relations policy with Pakistan, where a blanket ban on bilateral relations remains. The exemption will continue to apply to multi-nation events such as ICC events, Olympics, Asian Games and others.“For bilateral sports events in each other’s country, Indian teams will not participate in competitions in Pakistan. We will also not allow Pakistani teams to play in India,” said an office memorandum issued on May 5 by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

It is also important to consider India’semerging as a trusted venue for hosting international sporting events,” it continued.The policy issued on August 21 last year remains unchanged.As Ahmedabad will host the Commonwealth Games in 2030 and has ambitions to host the Asian Games and the Olympics, the document also clarifies the intention to facilitate the visa process for eligible individuals.“To make India a preferred destination for hosting international sporting events, the visa process for athletes, team officials, technical staff and officials of international sports governing bodies will be simplified.”“In the case of office-bearers in international sports governing bodies, multiple-entry visas will be granted preferentially for the duration of their official tenure, but for a maximum period of five years. This will facilitate their smooth movement into and within the country in accordance with international standards,” the memorandum reads.The policy arose last year after the uproar over India’s participation in the men’s Asia Cup in the UAE, which also featured Pakistan, within months of the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people.
