Actor-turned-politician and Tamilag Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay is unlikely to take oath as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister on May 7 as he seeks to consolidate support to cross the majority line in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
News agency ANI, quoting sources, said that TVK “doesn’t have the official numbers yet” and apparently the governor is not yet convinced about the numbers.
The development comes days after TVK won 108 seats in the 234-member assembly and is 10 short of the majority mark. With Vijay stepping down from one of the two seats he contested and won in the Assembly elections, the party’s actual strength in the Tamil Nadu Assembly will be 107.
TVK, which emerged as the single largest party in Tamil Nadu in a grand debut in the assemblies, won the support of five Congress MLAs.
This is a developing story. Further details were awaited.
