‘Sonam Wangchuk has experience fasting’: CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke urges students not to risk their lives | Today’s news
The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which has been demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET paper leak, continues its protest against the Delhi Jantar Mantar.
Social activist Sonam Wangchuk, who supports the movement, has been on hunger strike for the past nine days. Along with him, some students joined the fast, even though the organizers are urging them to end it.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke was heard last week appealing to students not to observe the fast, saying the protest was likely to drag on and participants should not risk their health.’
“Everyone needs to stay fit”
In an interview with Khabar Fusion, Abhijeet Dipke said that he had repeatedly asked the protesters not to join the hunger strike.
“I tried to convince everyone. I asked everyone to please not go on hunger strike. Because if everyone starts a hunger strike… the government doesn’t care. If the government cared, they wouldn’t let 20 children die. The resignation letter would come after just one death or a paper leak. So I told everyone not to go on hunger strike. Only the Son will then have to stay fit through this experience. hunger strike, so he can handle it himself.”
Expressing concern about the students participating in the protest, he added, “I am a little worried about the health of these children. And again I request you not to do this. Our protest will be long, so why risk our lives? Sonam Sir is doing a great job. But we have to stay to handle the other things that need to be done. I say the same thing again: if everyone goes on hunger strike?”
A social media statement goes viral
Dipke’s remarks went viral on social media amid the ongoing demonstrations at Jantar Mantar. A group of student leaders affiliated with AISA is in a hurry with Wangchuk. One student leader, Danish Ali, had to be hospitalized on Saturday due to her critical condition.
According to reports, Sonam Wangchuk remained on a fast for nine days and is said to be losing weight. Meanwhile, Dipke, whose Cockroach Janata Party attracted considerable attention on social media within days of its launch, continued to lead the protest with supporters and students at the demonstration site.
Wangchuk asks for a one-day fast
Dipke’s resignation comes days after Sonam Wangchuk expressed her disappointment over what she described as “overeating” of people at the protest site.
He urged supporters to observe a one-day fast, saying they should refrain from eating during the day so that there is no need to distribute food among the protesters.
Wangchuk also noted that those who overeat become obese, sick and die sooner than those who fast.
