Watch viral video: Sonam Wangchuk forcibly lifted, CJP claims; wife issues statement | Today’s news

Activist and educator Sonam Wangchuk was taken to hospital. This came on the 21st day of his indefinite hunger strike. The Cockroach Janta Party has now shared a messy video that has gone viral.

Sharing the video, CJP spokesperson Saurav Das claimed that Delhi Police forcibly detained Wangchuk. His video went viral online, garnering nearly 2.5 million views within an hour. The viral video shows a chaotic scene unfolding near Sonam Wangchuk.

“Sonam Wangchuk forcibly detained by Delhi Police! WATCH!” Das wrote while sharing the video.

Abhijeet Dipke claimed that he was “beaten”. “I was beaten and detained by the Delhi Police,” the CJP founder president wrote.

Sonam Wangchuk protested against Jantar Mantar during that period. Meanwhile, the Delhi Police’s reasoning completely contradicts the CJP’s claims.

The Delhi Police says the move followed an order by the Delhi High Court. The court ordered daily medical checkups and basic care. This happened after reports of his seriously deteriorating health.

According to the Delhi Police, the protesters tried to resist the move. According to DCP New Delhi, there was a slight ruckus as a result and the police insisted that they exercised utmost restraint during the operation.

“As per order of Hon’ble High Court and based on expert medical advice due to deteriorating health condition of Sh. Sonam Wangchuk he has been shifted to hospital for basic medical treatment,” DCP New Delhi said in an official statement on social media.

“In compliance with the orders of the Hon’ble High Court, the protesters tried to create an obstruction in which there was a slight ruckus, but the police exercised maximum restraint and conducted the exercise safely,” it added.

“We request the protesters at Jantar Mantar to leave the place peacefully as soon as possible,” the post concluded.

The exact nature of the transfer remains disputed between the two parties. Meanwhile, wife Sonam Wangchuk issued a statement.

“I am at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi where Wangchuk was admitted. Nothing should be given to him orally or intravenously without consent from me, his family and his doctors who have been monitoring his health (sic) for the past 20 days,” the post read.

Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike

Sonam Wangchuk joined the CJP’s protest and demanded the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. This arose out of the alleged leak of the NEET-UG entrance medical examination paper. He also called for transparent, systemic reforms in India’s examination system.

His fast began on June 28. According to doctors, Wangchuk entered a critical health stage after several weeks of hunger strike. He reportedly lost over 9kg, almost 20% of his body weight. Doctors expressed concern about muscle loss and organ damage.
