FM Sitharaman to visit Qatar from 27-29 September, attend AIIB Annual Meeting | Today’s news
New Delhi: Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will visit Qatar from September 27 to 29 to attend the 11th annual meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) Board of Governors on September 28 in Doha, the finance ministry said.
The Minister will lead the Indian delegation of Finance Ministry officials. She will attend the annual meeting of the AIIB as the Indian Governor of the multilateral development bank. India is the second largest shareholder of the AIIB.
During the visit, Sitharaman is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with the AIIB president and counterparts from Jordan, Switzerland, Algeria, Saudi Arabia and Nepal, the ministry said.
Sitharaman is also expected to invite Qatari leadership and hold talks with local businessmen and investors as part of the visit.
In the midst of the Persian Gulf standoff
The visit comes as India continues to engage with key Gulf partners on investment and economic cooperation, using multilateral platforms such as the AIIB to advance infrastructure and development financing priorities.
At the AIIB’s annual meeting in Doha, governors and senior officials from the bank’s member countries will meet to discuss issues related to infrastructure investment and development financing.
India is a founding member of the AIIB and is among its largest shareholders, giving it a significant role in the governance of the institution.
The AIIB is a multilateral development bank focused on infrastructure and sustainable development financing in Asia and beyond.
