Following the closure of three stalls at the Kozhikode beach following the seizure of expired meat and rotten vegetables, beachgoers and residents have demanded that the business licenses of the operators be terminated. They also sought measures to reduce the total number of shops allowed in the main tourist spot, citing inconvenience to visitors.
“We welcome the order issued by the Kerala State Human Rights Commission to suspend the licenses of those involved in the latest incident. But we need a permanent termination of these licenses,” said Gireesh Kumar, a native of Vengali and a frequent visitor to the tourist spot. He added that the carelessness of a few has tarnished the reputation of traders.
Members of various residents’ associations, senior citizens’ groups and tourism entrepreneurs demanded a permanent mechanism to monitor food quality.
