The main goal of the Department of Social Justice is to ensure freedom and self-sufficient life for the differently-abled, said Minister for Higher Education and Social Justice R. Bindu.
The Minister was speaking at the nationwide inauguration of the ‘Able Point’ unit, an initiative aimed at providing employment to the differently abled and parents of children with autism. The first ‘Able Point’ was opened near Gandhi Park in Kakkanad.
‘Able Point’ will sell products made by the differently abled. The plan is to provide employees with a monthly salary of at least ₹15,000, according to the release. Government agencies and NGOs will be involved in providing training in customer service, sales strategies, product knowledge and inventory management.
Efforts are underway to set up such centers at 100 locations. It is expected to create a sustainable market network for artisans, weavers and women-led cottage industries linked to the Khadi Board. Another initiative called ‘Sushakti’, a self-help group for the differently-abled, will be launched on Monday (March 9, 2026).
