A Raipur woman cleared 19 government exams in pursuit of one job. The internet says “don’t celebrate it” | Today’s news
A woman from Raipur has found herself at the center of a debate on social media after news of her cracking 19 central government recruitment exams went viral on the internet.
That achievement belongs to Charu Pandey, a government job aspirant whose years-long journey through India’s highly competitive examination system has drawn both admiration and criticism.
Her story gained widespread attention after a video highlighting her success was shared on X, prompting users to consider what such success says about perseverance, career goals and the country’s recruiting landscape.
While her supporters described her success as an example of extraordinary dedication, critics questioned whether repeatedly passing recruitment exams should be considered a measure of success.
A goal that started with one government job
According to her account, Pandey started preparing for government recruitment exams when she was 23 years old.
At the time, her goal was clear: to secure a stable government job.
She has appeared for a wide variety of examinations over the years, including the Combined Graduate (SSC CGL), Combined Higher Secondary (SSC CHSL) and Multi-Task Staff (SSC MTS) examinations of the Staff Selection Commission. She has also cleared tests conducted by Railway Recruitment Board (RRB), State Bank of India (SBI) and Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS).

Her repeated participation in several recruitment cycles eventually led to her clearing 19 central government exams.
Speaking to ANI, Pandey said that the recognition she got was something she never expected when she started her preparation journey.
“My family is very happy with this achievement of mine. I am being awarded for clearing 19 state exams. Honestly, I never thought that I would attempt so many exams, my only aim was to secure at least one civil service seat.”
She also revealed that her academic background initially led her family to envision a different career path.
According to Pandey, her parents encouraged her to pursue learning or academia because she had a strong foundation in mathematics. However, she eventually decided to focus on competitive exams.
Social Media Reaction: Praise and Criticism
As clips and posts about her success spread online, social media users offered starkly contrasting opinions.
Many praised the determination required to repeatedly compete in some of India’s toughest recruitment exams, where vacancies are limited and competition often runs into thousands of applicants.
But others questioned whether clearing more examinations should be celebrated in the first place.

One user commented: “Passing 19 government exams shows dedication, but it’s not the kind of achievement a nation should celebrate as a symbol of progress.”
Another user wrote: “What an exceptional contribution that deserves this award. Recognition should be based on real achievements and service, not just exam results.”
These comments reflected a wider debate about whether success in auditions should itself be considered a significant public achievement.
Questions about career focus and opportunities
Some users focused their criticism on what they saw as a lack of specialization.
One comment read: “Her folly aims to harvest all govt exams. She doesn’t seem to have a passion for a particular sector.”
Others have raised concerns about potentially blocking opportunities for other candidates if successful applicants pass the exams but choose not to join.
“Waste of places to clear and not join. There are no reserve lists for most exams,” wrote one user.
