An IndiGo traveling from Guwahati to Bengaluru suffered a tail surface impact on its second approach at Kempegowda International Airport on Sunday, September 27.

This incident occurred in severe gusty weather and the aircraft subsequently landed safely.
The airline said, “IndiGo flight 6E 6542 from Guwahati to Bengaluru experienced ‘Abnormal Runway Contact’ while landing during gusty weather at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru. All customers and crew are safe and have disembarked safely.”
In a statement, IndiGo said the aircraft experienced abnormal contact with the runway during landing and that the relevant authorities were informed in accordance with standard operating procedures.
“The aircraft has been sent for a maintenance check. Operations will resume after securing the necessary clearances,” an IndiGo spokesperson said, reiterating the airline’s commitment to passenger and crew safety.
The incident occurred during the plane’s second approach, according to reports. It has also been described as a tail strike in which the rear of the aircraft comes into contact with the runway during takeoff or landing.

The circumstances of the contact, including the role played by gusty weather, have not yet been determined. The aircraft will undergo the required checks before it can return to service.
Various other IndiGo operational issues that occurred in the month of September
The incident comes amid several other operational and security incidents involving IndiGo flights in September.
On September 1, a Goa-Delhi IndiGo flight with 229 passengers returned to Manohar International Airport after a technical problem was detected in one of its engines. The plane landed safely about 45 minutes after take-off and was sent for a maintenance check, The Indian Express reported.
On 4 September, an IndiGo aircraft operating from Navi Mumbai to Srinagar came into contact with a Visual Docking Guidance System pole while stationed at the Srinagar airport. The aircraft sustained damage, although all passengers and crew were safe. The Airports Authority of India said an investigation would determine the exact cause, India Today reported.
On 15 September, IndiGo Flight 6E 6504, traveling from Agartala to Delhi with 103 passengers and six crew members, was diverted to Lucknow after a smoke alert was triggered in the cargo hold. The plane landed safely and no injuries were reported, according to India Today.

Recently, on September 23, IndiGo flight 6E 04 from London Heathrow to Delhi returned to Heathrow after the pilots detected a technical problem about an hour after take-off. The Boeing 787-9 landed safely and was sent for a maintenance check, India Today reported.
These incidents involved different circumstances and do not appear to be related from available reports. The latest occurrence in Bengaluru will be assessed separately as the aircraft undergoes a maintenance check.
For now, IndiGo has confirmed that those on board the Guwahati-Bengaluru flight were able to exit the plane safely. Further details are expected once the inspection and any regulatory review is complete.
