Delhi-Hyderabad IndiGo flight carrying Revanth Reddy lands safely after rain-induced go-around: Report | Today’s news
IndiGo flight 6E-717 traveling from Delhi to Hyderabad, reportedly carrying Telangana Chief Minister and Congress leader Revanth Reddy among the passengers, landed safely at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Wednesday evening in its second attempt after the crew conducted a layover due to adverse weather conditions.
The IndiGo plane abandoned its initial approach after encountering heavy rain and unstable weather over Hyderabad before circling and making a successful landing, Hindustan Times reported.
Airline officials told Hindustan Times that the maneuver was carried out in accordance with standard aviation safety procedures.
Heavy rain forces the IndiGo crew to cancel the first landing attempt of 6E-717
According to a statement by airline officials to the Hindustan Times, the aircraft experienced an unstable approach during descent due to adverse weather conditions over Hyderabad.
“The crew initiated a fly-by after an unstable approach due to heavy rain in Hyderabad. The flight (6E-717) landed safely on the second attempt. All protocols were followed,” said airline officials, who did not wish to be named.
A go-around is a routine aviation safety procedure in which pilots abort a landing attempt when conditions are deemed unsuitable for a safe landing. The aircraft moves away from the runway before preparing for another approach.
IndiGo flight 6E-717 lands safely after weather delay
Flight tracking data showed that IndiGo flight 6E-717 took off from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport at around 6:16 pm, around 20 minutes behind schedule.
The plane arrived at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport shortly before 9:00 p.m., more than 30 minutes behind schedule after a weather-related detour.
No injuries or operational problems were reported and the flight completed its journey safely after a second landing attempt.
IndiGo announces new CFO
The development comes days after IndiGo announced a change in its senior management and appointed Kiran Thadimarri as the new CFO with effect from July 28.
Thadimarri, who previously served as the airline’s deputy chief financial officer, will replace Gaurav Negi, who has been reassigned as advisor to the CEO.
A Chartered Accountant with over 24 years of experience, Thadimarri has previously worked with InterGlobe Enterprises, Udaan and General Electric Company.
The management reshuffle follows IndiGo’s latest quarterly earnings, in which the airline projected largely flat capacity growth for the current quarter after posting its second straight quarterly loss. The carrier also faced pressure on operating margins following a spike in jet fuel prices after the Iran conflict drove global oil prices above $100 a barrel.
