‘Look for men in turbans’: Food, first aid, shelter at Gurdwara, Sikh community helps students protest at Jantar Mantar | Today’s news
Thousands of students aka cockroaches continue to protest at Jantar Mantar as Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) continues its demand over alleged NEET paper leak. As several visuals from the protest site took over social media since Monday’s Sansad Chalo march, a strong message of sympathy emerged from the Sikh community.
Sikh volunteers perform sewa at Jantar Mantar
Several Sikh volunteers were seen at the protest site distributing aid to students.
In the new visuals, Hemkunt Foundation volunteers were seen distributing dinner to students on Tuesday evening. According to the organization, burgers and water bottles were given to 10,000 people.
“Since last night, thousands of students have received first aid, shelter and a place to wash at Gurudwara Bangla Sahib. Langar and tea have not stopped even once. Guru Nanak’s house has reopened its doors – Rakab Ganj Sahib and gurdwaras across Delhi have done the same,” Community Development Director Harteerath Singh Ahluwalia wrote on X.
Sachkhand Foundation organized pizza langar as part of its sewa at Jantar Mantar. Several videos of their initiative have gone viral on social media.
Shelter, assistance and protection from the police
The organization’s video addressed the students and announced, “Here is a simple challenge if you are facing any kind of attention. You need food, you are facing any difficulty or trouble. Problem – if you need food, if you are afraid of the police, if you need shelter or if you have any other demands or need any help – look for people wearing turbans in the crowd.
Bangla Sahib offers refuge
On Monday, the protest turned violent as police chased and dispersed protesters in central Delhi. In the rescue, the gates of Gurdwara Bangla Sahib opened to hundreds of youths fleeing lathi charge, tear gas and mayhem during the 20 July March.
Reportedly, those who were given shelter in the gurdwara slept in its common area. The langar continued to serve food to everyone who came.
“Everyone is welcome here. The common area and the langar are open to everyone,” Paramjit Singh Chandhok, senior adviser to the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, said on Tuesday.
Consequences of July 20
Meanwhile, Delhi Police has registered 10 FIRs in connection with the protests organized by the CJP, news agency ANI reported.
According to officials, four FIRs were registered at the Parliament Street police station, while three were lodged at the Connaught Place police station. Besides, one FIR each was registered at Mandir Marg, Barakhamba Road and Kartavya Path police stations.
These FIRs are said to relate to various incidents and matters related to the maintenance of law and order during the protest.
All registered cases are currently being investigated.
