Cockroach Janta Party explodes online as Akhilesh Yadav, Mahua Moitra extend support – Who joined? Help: 12M | Today’s news

Janta Cockroach Party (CJP)which started as a political satire on X following Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant’s comments about unemployed youth, snowballed on the internet with thousands of Indians and personalities joining.

What originally meant satire has now become a full-fledged fixture of 12 million Indians with political figures like Akhilesh Yadav, Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, Mahua Moitra and Kirti Azad.

Kirti Azad and Mahua Moitra were among the first politicians to claim membership in the unofficial political group, which defines itself as a “political front of the youth, by the youth, for the youth”.

After joining a satirical Instagram account, Akhilesh Yadav wrote on X: “BJP versus CJP”.

Since its launch in April 2026, the CJP has amassed nearly 12 million supporters – surpassing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has around 8.7 million supporters. 165.5 thousand people watch CJP on X.

And his mission? To be the voice of the “lazy and unemployed” and to make it very clear that the cockroach party was not founded to establish “another CARES PM, Davos vacation on the taxpayers’ paycheck or rebranding corruption as strategic spending”.

“We are here to ask — loudly, repeatedly, in writing — where the money went,” it reads.

The mission is to “build a party for young people who are constantly being labeled lazy, chronically online, and—lately—cockroaches. That’s it. That’s the mission.”

The rest is said to be “satire”.

As its popularity grew within days of its launch, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke wrote on X: “With growing support for CJP, we are fully aware that attempts will be made to discredit us and portray us as anti-social elements. We want to make it absolutely clear that CJP strongly believes in the Constitution of India and will always work to protect its values.”

Who can join? According to the CJP, those who meet the following criteria can be members of the CJP.
