Monsoon arrives in Mumbai; IMD says light rain and heat waves will continue in some parts of Delhi | Today’s news
The much-awaited southwest monsoon finally entered Mumbai and other parts of the state on Tuesday, bringing heavy rainfall and monsoon showers that started on Monday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather warning for Mumbai and nearby regions.
Southwest Monsoon is coming to Mumbai
The IMD said on Monday that the revival of Southwest Monsoon over Maharashtra is expected to bring it to Mumbai in the next 48 hours. The meteorological agency also clarified that the rainfall that India’s financial capital has received so far was part of the pre-monsoon rains, ANI reported.

In a statement issued today, the meteorological agency said that the southwest monsoon has further advanced over the remaining parts of the Central Arabian Sea, some parts of Maharashtra including Mumbai, some parts of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and also Bihar and the remaining parts of Telangana and Odisha.
Monsoon updates for other states
Announcing the arrival of the monsoon in Mumbai, the IMD said conditions favor further advance of the southwest monsoon into parts of the North Arabian Sea and Gujarat, along with other parts of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh during the next two to three days.
Rain activity is likely to intensify over large parts of eastern, northeastern and southern India in the coming days, according to the agency’s forecast. The IMD has forecast widespread rains over Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, Telangana and adjoining parts of South India, with heavy to very heavy showers expected in some areas.

In the east, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and parts of West Bengal can expect frequent spells of rain as the monsoon strengthens across the region.
Meanwhile, Northeast is likely to be the wettest part of the country with heavy to very heavy rainfall forecast for Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
Delhi weather forecast
Delhi can expect generally cloudy skies with light rainfall, thundershowers and gusty winds for the next few days, according to the weather agency’s forecast.
Thunderstorms accompanied by winds of 50-60 kmph are expected to persist till June 26 due to prevailing weather systems over northwest India.
The storms will affect several states
According to a Business Today report, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds are expected in large parts of the country, apart from the monsoon belt. Weather advisories warn that gusts could reach up to 80km/h in some areas, increasing the risk of localized damage and travel disruption. Intermittent thunderstorm activity is likely to continue in several northern, central, and eastern states over the next few days.
The heat wave will last for several parts
As the Southwest Monsoon continues to advance, heatwave conditions are expected to persist in several parts of the country, including East Uttar Pradesh and Vidarbha. Due to the delayed advance of the monsoon, hot and dry conditions persist longer in several central regions, forcing weather agencies to maintain heat warnings.
