Vijay’s first visit to Delhi as Tamil Nadu CM tomorrow, meets PM Modi, Sonia and Rahul Gandhi | Today’s news

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay is scheduled to make his first official visit to Delhi on May 27. Vijay will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union ministers, a Tamil Nadu state government official was quoted as saying by news agency PTI on Tuesday.

This will be CM Vijay’s first visit to the state capital after his historic victory in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections. Vijay is yet to meet PM Modi after becoming the Chief Minister.

During his meeting. The CM is expected to seek additional funds for the state and also seek approval from the Center for major projects for Tamil Nadu.

Vijay, who heads the nascent Tamilagu Vettri Kazhagam, took over as chief minister on 10 May after winning the assembly elections on 23 April. Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar took the oath of office and secrecy in a colorful ceremony held in Chennai.

On the same day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Vijay on his swearing-in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and said that the central government will continue to work with the state government to improve the lives of the people.

“Congratulations to Thiru C Joseph Vijay on being sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Wishing him all the best for his future tenure. The Central Government will continue to work with the Tamil Nadu Government to improve the lives of the people,” PM Modi said in a post on ‘X’.

Meeting Sonia, Rahul too

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister is also likely to meet senior Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi during his visit to the national capital.

During the Delhi tour, Vijay is also scheduled to inaugurate a statue of Tamil poet-saint Thiruvalluvar installed by the Tamil Nadu government at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).

The TVK emerged as the single largest party in the Assembly elections, winning 108 seats and later secured the support of the Congress, Left parties, VCK and IUML to form the government.

Portfolio Allocation

Earlier this month, the Tamil Nadu government announced the distribution of portfolios among ministers in the newly constituted cabinet. Chief Minister Vijay retained several key departments, including the Ministry of Home Affairs, Police, Municipal Administration, Urban and Water Supply, Women Welfare and Implementation of Special Schemes.

The government has also created a dedicated AI department at the cabinet level, making Tamil Nadu the second state in the country after Kerala to create a separate AI portfolio.

Key allocations included Kumar R appointed as Minister for Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology and Digital Services, while KA Sengottaiyan was given the charge of revenue and N Marie Wilson was given the finance portfolio.
