Verdict for the murder of the Pothunda twins on July 6
The verdict in the Pothunda twins’ murder case will be delivered on Monday (July 6, 2026). The final arguments in the trial were completed last week and Judge IV. of the District and Sessions Court, Kenneth George, will pass sentence.
The sole accused, Chenthamara of Thiruthampadam, Boyan Colony in Pothundy, Nenmara, is already serving a double life sentence for the murder of his neighbor Sajith, who was hacked to death on August 31, 2019. The same court had earlier tried and convicted him in the case.
In this bail case, Chenthamara killed Sajith’s husband Sudhakaran and his mother Lakshmi in Boyan Colony on January 27, 2025. Police said the motive was his enmity towards Sajith and her family.
Investigators also flagged police misconduct, including breaching bail conditions when the accused re-entered the colony.
Alathur DySP N. Muraleedharan led the investigation. MK Vijayakumar appeared for the prosecution while Jacob Mathew and Mohammed Hashim represented the defence.
