US-Iran war news LIVE: US renews strike against Iran after two US workers killed in Jordan | Today’s news

US-Iran war news LIVE: Hours after two US military personnel were killed in Jordan while another was reported missing following an Iranian attack, the US launched renewed strikes targeting Tehran, the Central Command said. Before the latest round of strikes on Saturday (local time), the Islamic Republic’s supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, who has not appeared in public since his appointment, said Washington would pay for “trying to escalate the conflict”.

U.S. CENTCOM said the airstrikes began at 6 p.m. ET at the direction of President Donald Trump. He added in a statement: “The strikes are designed to further reduce Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and to quickly punish Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces that launched attacks against US service members in Jordan last night.”

US forces divert five merchant vessels after resuming naval blockade

US Central Command said on Saturday (local time) that US forces diverted at least five merchant vessels and disabled one after reimposing a naval blockade against Iran. A post on X says US naval forces continue to enforce a blockade of Iranian ports, with USS Donald Cook (DDG 75) conducting operations in the Arabian Sea. Earlier on Wednesday, US CENTCOM noted that US forces decommissioned an empty oil tanker bound for an Iranian port after the vessel allegedly ignored several warnings while trying to break the naval blockade imposed on Tehran. In a statement, CENTCOM said its forces enforced a naval blockade against Iran on July 15 by disabling an unloaded oil tanker that attempted to sail toward an Iranian port in the Arabian Gulf.

Iran is no longer bound by the 14-point MoU: FM Spokesperson

Esmail Baghaei, a spokesman for Tehran’s foreign ministry, said on Saturday (local time) that the Islamic Republic was no longer committed to implementing the 14-point memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the US, signed last month after the United States violated its obligations under the deal by escalating its military attack on Iran.

According to a statement by Iranian state media IRIB, Baghaei said the memorandum of understanding was based on reciprocal commitments and that Washington’s actions had changed Iran’s position on the deal. He noted: “The Islamabad MoU was based on a commitment to commitment, and with the US breaking its commitments, Iran no longer considers itself committed to its implementation.” Baghaei further stated that Tehran’s military actions were limited to self-defense and only targeted Washington’s military assets.
