US-Iran news LIVE: Will Tehran and Washington end 106-day war, sign peace deal today? Trump Stocks Hormuz Opening Date | Today’s news
US-Iran news LIVE: Hopes are high over the signing of a Pakistan-brokered US-Iran peace deal as the war enters its 107th day. After 67 days of a ceasefire, the two nations finally appear to have reached a consensus since US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that the Iran deal was to be signed the following day, marking his 80th birthday.
Trump shares Hormuz opening date
In a post on Truth Social, Donald Trump said: “The deal is to be signed tomorrow and immediately after it is signed the Strait of Hormuz is OPEN TO ALL. Our relationship with Iran is much different and better than the previous administrations.”
Indicating that the United States had succeeded in convincing Iran to dismantle its nuclear program, he added: “We look forward to working with Iran and the entire Middle East long into the future. Let’s hope this process works quickly, easily and smoothly. If not, we have the ultimate alternative, hopefully never used again!”
Iran’s president welcomes the nation’s unity
The statement came minutes after Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian took to the X to salute Iran’s unity in difficult times, writing: “The war has proven once again that regardless of taste and perspective, whenever our dear Iran is at stake, we are one nation, one clenched fist and one beating heart.”
Shehbaz Sharif announced the date of the peace agreement
The first announcement about the date of the peace agreement was made by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. According to Shehbaz Sharif’s statement, the two sides have agreed on the framework of the peace agreement and that Islamabad is preparing to electronically sign the agreement on Sunday, followed by technical-level talks next week.
Donald Trump’s post came hours after Shehbaz Sharif said on X: “We are closer to a peace deal than ever. With completion likely expected in the next 24 hours, Pakistan is preparing to electronically sign the peace deal immediately after, followed by technical-level talks next week.”
Another post followed, in which Shehbaz Sharif said he had a “warm and cordial telephone conversation” with the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, about the latest developments in the landmark peace deal.
Iran rejects reports of Sunday’s signing of a peace deal
However, none of the Iranian officials confirmed Sunday’s signing. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei cautioned against commenting on the exact timing of the signing, Reuters reported. Hinting at the possibility of the deal closing “in the next few days”, he said: “It won’t be tomorrow”.
