US-Iran peace deal: Trump says Iran won’t get ‘no money, not a dime’; claims Tehran is over | Today’s news

Days after signing a 14-point memorandum of understanding (MoU) to end the war with Iran, US President Donald Trump on Friday (local time) reiterated the terms of a 60-day negotiation period, saying Tehran would get “not a cent” of financial relief.

Trump made the remarks in a Truth Social post, arguing that he did not sign the peace deal out of desperation, but rather out of Iranian necessity, as he took a hard line on providing financial aid to the Islamic Republic under the 14-point memorandum of understanding.

Trump says Iran is finished

He wrote: “We didn’t meet out of desperation, Iran did. They’re done! We’ll play out 60 days. They won’t get any money, not a dime!”

In another post, the US president said the war had “shrunken” Tehran to the point where it could no longer possess a functioning air force, navy, radar systems or anti-aircraft equipment. He wrote: “The war has shrunk Iran! It no longer has an air force, navy, anti-aircraft equipment, radar, or virtually anything else, yet the Dumocrats say Iran is better off now than it was four months ago.”

Trump’s comments come as Democrats have criticized him, reportedly saying the Islamic Republic is now in a stronger position than it was four months ago. He dismissed the claims, characterizing the opposition’s perspective as uninformed.

Trump signs US-Iran peace deal

Earlier this week, the US president signed an interim agreement to end hostilities, paving the way for further negotiations for 60 days with the aim of reaching a final agreement. Trump signed the deal Wednesday night in Versailles, France, while attending a dinner with European leaders hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron after the G7 summit.

His Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian also signed the deal days after it was first electronically signed by Vice President JD Vance and Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf on June 14.

This is a developing story. Further details were awaited.
