Drama at Kerala DHS office, two senior officials claim accused
A tense and unusual situation developed at the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) on Friday morning after DHS Director KJ Reena reached the office citing the stay order issued by the Kerala Administrative Court (KAT) on her transfer. The tribunal awarded Dr. Reena’s two-week temporary stay under the transfer order and allowed her to continue as DHS. Under the order, she returned to the office and exercised her legal right to renew the charges.
However, V. Meenakshy, Additional DHS (Family Welfare), who received full additional DHS allowance from the government and was already occupying the DHS office, refused to give up the charges. She pointed out that she could not hand over responsibility without a formal order from the government or the Department of Health.
As a result, the two officials remained at the DHS office for the day, reportedly sitting across the table, with police personnel deployed to prevent any untoward incident. Dr. Reena left the office in a company vehicle at the end of the day.
The government is appealing
On Friday, the government appealed to the Supreme Court against the suspension of the order to transfer Dr. Reeny issued by KAT pointing out that the government did not violate any norms by transferring DHS.
Dr. Reena, who approached the KAT against the unceremonious manner in which she was removed as DHS, won a stay on the transfer order pointing to service rule violations and pleading that she was forced to leave under a cloud of false allegations.
