US-Iran news LIVE: Peace deal ‘never closer’, Iran minister Abbas Araghchi confirms amid fragile truce | Today’s news
US-Iran News LIVE: Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi announced Friday that a peace deal is in its final stages, signaling that the United States and Iran have reached an agreement to end the war. The development came almost an hour after US President Donald Trump accused Iran of attacking Indian ships sailing near the Strait of Hormuz.
In a social media post on X, Abbas Araqchi said: “The Islamabad MoU has never been closer. Pending its finalisation, the media should refrain from speculating about its contents. In line with our responsible and transparent approach, all details will be shared with the public in due course.”
Donald Trump shared Abbas Araqchi’s tweet on his Truth Social platform a day after he said the United States had called off planned military strikes on Iran, citing progress in talks. Trump wrote: “The discussions and final points have been agreed, both in concept and in very fine detail, by all parties involved, including the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt and others. The naval blockade will remain in full force and effect until this transaction is completed – the time and place of signing to be announced soon.”
According to a senior US administration official, the two sides have agreed on the text and that Washington expects to sign the first agreement in the coming days, Reuters reported. Abbas Araghchi said on Friday that his country had emerged stronger from the conflict and hinted that changes to the preliminary agreement were still possible. He said on state television: “Iran is the winner of the war with the US.”
US shot down several Iranian drones
On Saturday morning, the US Central Command claimed to have shot down several Iranian one-way attack drones that were targeting commercial ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. In a post on X, CENTCOM said: “US forces have shot them all down in recent hours as traffic flow through the strait continues unimpeded. The international trade corridor remains open for transit.”
