Cantonment police on Tuesday arrested two people in connection with the murder of Alan, a teenager who was stabbed to death during a confrontation between two groups of youths.
The police identified the accused as Sandeep and Akhilesh, both natives of Jagatha. A manhunt has been launched for at least four others, including the person who allegedly stabbed Alan with a sharp iron rod. The pair were remanded in judicial custody.
The incident occurred in Thycaud on Monday when Alan allegedly tried to intervene and defuse a dispute between his friends and a rival group over a football match. The situation is believed to have escalated when Alan, seeing his friends being attacked by a rival group, tried to mediate by asking the attackers to let his friends go.
One of the attackers allegedly hit Alan on the head with a helmet, another stabbed him in the chest with a sharp weapon. Although he was rushed to General Hospital by his friends, Alan succumbed to his injuries.
A forensics team that examined the crime scene found an iron rod. The body of the deceased was handed over to the family members. The remains were laid to rest in Muttada.
