The International Olympic Committee is sticking to the age limit of 70 years for the Indian Olympic Association

NEW DELHI: The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has not approved any relaxation above the 70-year age limit for candidates seeking nomination in the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) elections.Current IOA Article 14.3 allows members over 70 years of age to compete if international charters and statutes permit.The amended provision, which was passed at the Special General Meeting (SGBM) here on Tuesday, removes this exception and sets 70 as the ceiling for office-bearers and members of the Executive Council (EC).“MOV has said that the age limit is 70 years. The IOA constitution has therefore been amended,” an IOA official confirmed to TOI.The SGBM, attended by officials from the IOA, National Sports Federations (NSF) and Olympic Associations (SOA), adopted the amended constitution before it goes to the General Assembly for ratification.The changes allow office-bearers or EC members to serve three consecutive terms, individually or in combination, before a cooling-off period. The terms of office of the President and Treasurer remain three and two terms, respectively.No IOA election dates have been announced on SGBM.
