SRIKAKULAM:
CPI-M Srikakulam district secretary D. Govinda Rao on Sunday announced that the party would hold a massive agitation at Palas on November 18 to oppose the proposed cargo airport in Uddanam area of the district.
He said in a press release that the people of Mandas, Vajrapukottur and other mandals will participate in the agitation, which will be organized outside the office of the Finance Divisional Officer in Palas.
Mr. Govind Rao said that the government is proposing environmentally harmful thermal, nuclear power plants, cargo airports, pharmaceutical plants in the districts without taking people’s opinion. He said that people will not allow forceful acquisition of land for cargo airport.
Meanwhile, officials are trying to win local approval by highlighting the airport’s potential to spur rapid development in the Palasa revenue division and create employment opportunities for local residents.
