The court allows the DVAC to conduct further investigations in the case against former minister Vaithilingam

The Designated Corruption Court has granted permission to the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) to conduct further investigation “as expeditiously as possible” in the ₹27.9 crore corruption case involving R. Vaithilingam, who was Housing Minister in the AIADMK regime, and submit a report in three months.

The court issued the orders on a motion by the DVAC, seeking permission to investigate the case further. Mr Vaithilingam, currently a DMK legislator, was the Housing and Urban Development Minister in the AIADMK regime from 2011 to 2016.

The investigating agency registered a criminal complaint against him on September 19, 2024 for an alleged crime he committed while serving as a minister.

Mr. Vaithilingam resigned as AIADMK MLA in January this year and joined the DMK, which was in power at the time. A month later, DVAC submitted its final report in the case.
