Ranganath says the land mafia has been giving false information to the courts

Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency Commissioner AV Ranganath on Monday defended the agency’s action against encroachments, saying its work over the past two years was guided by the spirit of the Constitution and aimed at protecting government land, lakes and parks.

In a statement, Mr. Ranganath said HYDRAA acted in accordance with Articles 21 and 48A of the Constitution to protect public property, which he estimated to be worth around ₹1.5 million at current market value. He said that six lakes have been fully restored, while work to restore another 20 lakes is ongoing. Mr. Ranganath alleged that the land mafia and the raiders were trying to mislead the courts by submitting false information. Referring to the Lothkunta land dispute, he alleged that a real estate company had tried to take over government land worth nearly ₹10,000 crore. He further claimed that the company blasted rock formations billions of years old and cut down hundreds of trees without obtaining the required permits. He said HYDRAA acted following complaints from the Rock Rescue Society, environmental activists and local residents.

The commissioner also claimed that the developer had filed a contempt case against him after encroaching on 120 acres of government land, claiming that the disputed property was located elsewhere. He said 63 contempt cases had been filed against him, which he attributed to individuals and entities whose alleged interventions were challenged by HYDRAA.

Mr Ranganath said he would challenge all the cases through legal means and expressed confidence in the judiciary. He added that he has always worked with respect for the law and will continue to fulfill all duties entrusted to him by the government with the same commitment.
