In an effort to streamline the ticketing process, South Western Railway (SWR) has launched Mobile Unreserved Ticketing System (MUTS) Sahayak at KSR Bengaluru station. This makes SWR the first railway zone in the country to implement the initiative.
Under this scheme, trained MUTS Sahayaks will use MUTS handheld devices to issue unreserved tickets to passengers. According to officials, the move is aimed at easing congestion at ticket counters and providing commuters with a faster and hassle-free option to purchase tickets.
KSR Bengaluru is among the five NSG-1 category stations identified by the Railway Committee for the pilot implementation of the MUTS Sahayak model.
According to officials, the system is expected to significantly reduce passenger queues at traditional reservation counters and help railway officials manage crowds more efficiently, especially during peak hours.
“The launch of the MUTS Sahayak Scheme marks an important step towards enhancing the convenience of passengers through the use of technology. By enabling Sahayaks to issue unreserved tickets through MUTS handheld devices, we provide passengers with an additional ticketing option and reduce pressure on conventional counters,” said Manjunath Kanamadi, Chief Public Relations Officer, SWR.
Since the introduction of MUTS from 30 October to 3 November, 6,212 tickets have been sold, generating an income of ₹4,63,110. Meanwhile, during the same period, the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) at KSR Bengaluru City railway station recorded 1,46,762 passengers, according to SWR.
Officials said the move will help address one of the biggest challenges faced by daily commuters, long queues at counters. “Since MUTS Sahayak are now assisting passengers directly, the need to open additional counters at several stations may also be reduced,” Mr. Kanamadi added.
