The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which is protesting at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar over the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, is set to march in Parliament on the first day of the monsoon session on Monday. Before the march, on Sunday evening, more people joined CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke’s call for a night vigil at the protest site at Jantar Mantar.
CJP organizes night vigil
CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das claimed that nearly 20,000 people were “in the vicinity of Jantar Mantar” even before the planned mobilization.
In a post on X Das said, “20,000 people are in and around Jantar Mantar. And it’s not even July 20. Dharmendra Pradhan – your day of reckoning is here.”
Addressing his supporters through a video message, Dipke urged them to stay at Jantar Mantar overnight, saying their presence was necessary to ensure the peaceful conduct of the parliamentary march.
“Our protest continues. Please come here in large numbers. Stay here overnight. If you don’t come, they will try to end the protest,” he said.
Appealing for restraint, Dipke said, “Our protest and march will be peaceful. I request everyone to follow the rules and follow the instructions.”
Chalo Sansad march of CJP
According to the Delhi Police, the CJP did not seek official permission for her ‘Chalo Sansad’ march on Monday. The area of New Delhi, especially around Parliament House and India Gate, is subject to a ban under Section 163 of the BNSS when Parliament is in session.
The regulation prohibits the gathering of four or more people, unauthorized gatherings and the carrying of weapons. As the monsoon session of Parliament begins on Monday, restrictions are being strictly enforced to prevent protests and ensure smooth movement of lawmakers.
Wangchuk ready to quit quickly, says wife
Addressing a crowd at Jantar Mantar, Sonam Wangchuk’s wife Gitanjali J Angmo on Sunday evening announced that the activist would end his hunger strike on Monday if political leaders met him at Safdarjung Hospital and assured him that the issue of accountability for education would be the focus of the monsoon session of Parliament.
“If the political leaders meet Sonam at the hospital and assure him that they will raise the issue of accountability for education during the Parliament session, they will end their hunger strike tomorrow,” Angmo said.
She also relayed Wangchuk’s appeal to supporters ahead of the proposed march, urging them to maintain peace and discipline.
Angmo also said that she will lead the CJP’s protest march to Parliament in his place.
