The 11th district conference of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), Kalaburagi unit, was successfully held at the Savitribai Phule and Fatima Sheikh Library in the city on Sunday.
Inaugurating the conference, Nagendrappa Auradi, a senior academic, recalled his experience as a youth activist and urged the youth to cultivate the habit of reading and engage in academic and extra-curricular activities.
He urged the youth to recognize the power of collective organization and strive for social change.
He expressed concern over rising unemployment among the youth and said the issue required urgent attention from the government.
Addressing the gathering, Shrimant Biradar, one of the chief guests, said that more than 2.5 million government posts remain vacant in Karnataka.
“Instead of filling up these vacancies, the state government is testing the patience of the unemployed youth,” he said, urging the state government to grant a five-year relaxation in the upper age limit for the upcoming recruitment notification.
Speaking on the occasion, DYFI State President Lavitra Vastra elaborated on the objectives and principles of the organization and emphasized the need for the youth to understand the economic, social and cultural challenges of the country and stand up to build a strong and progressive movement.
Salman Khan Devantagi, presiding over the event, expressed concern that many young people today are drifting away from socially productive activities and falling prey to addictions. He said organizations like DYFI can play a vital role in building a better society.
A new district executive committee was elected at the conference, with Pramod Panchal elected as its convener.
Shantkumar Guduba, Atheet Sarode, Sania and Mallikarjun Sringeri were elected as joint conveners along with six executive members selected unanimously.
