Monsoon-related incidents have claimed three lives in the past week and forced the evacuation of nearly 800 people across Thane district. In the latest weather-related incident, a lightning strike injured two people, officials said on Thursday, according to PTI.

Three dead, 11 injured this season

The district administration in an official release said that one person from Thane city, Ambernath and Mira Bhayander were among the victims, PTI reported. A total of 11 persons sustained injuries during the season in various rain-related accidents, the official said.

A lightning strike injures two in Murbad

A lightning strike injured two persons, including a teenage girl, in Murbad taluka on Wednesday, tehsildar Abhijit Deshmukh said, quoting PTI. Both were taken to the primary health center in Tokawda and are said to be out of danger, he said.

Two boys disappeared after drowning incidents

In separate incidents, two young boys drowned in the aa river Nallah at Bhiwandi on July 5 and July 6 respectively, PTI reported that search operations are still underway to trace them, officials said.

Separately, the body of an unidentified man was recovered from the flooded Potgaon river in Murbad and has been sent for post-mortem, with the police working to establish his identity, according to a report.

Almost 800 evacuated, over 130 houses damaged

Torrential downpours caused widespread unrest, forcing rescue teams to rescue 797 people from 229 families to safer places, PTI reported.

The heavy rains also severely damaged infrastructure, with 136 houses partially or completely collapsed in the district.

Five huts, two poultry farms, one community hall and an Anganwadi center were also destroyed, officials said.

Authorities avert flood threat at Adarsh ​​Chawl in Kalwa

According to PTIAuthorities on Wednesday moved swiftly after mountain torrents threatened to wash away the Adarsh ​​Chawl site in Kalwa, an official release said on Thursday. It was found on site that the natural drainage channels and the nallahs Rainwater coming down the hill became severely choked with debris, forcing rainwater to overflow into nearby residential units, the report said.

The Thane Municipal Corporation immediately deployed personnel to clear the clogged drains, effectively restoring the natural flow of the mountain streams and safely diverting the water to the city’s main sewerage system. PTI reported.

The district administration said there were no structural collapses in the locality and no loss of life or financial damage was reported.
