Participants in the Dharmapuri temple development project are seeking fair compensation
The Dharmapuri Temple Development Land Losers Association has expressed serious concern over what the state government has termed as “forceful and unfair land acquisition” for the proposed Sri Lakshminarasimha Swamy Temple development project at Dharmapuri in Jagtial district.
Association member Ranga Ashok said in a statement that the state government issued a notification to acquire 17 properties and several acres of land along the Godavari river in 2022 without preparing or publishing a detailed project report (DPR) or conducting a social impact assessment.
Despite repeated requests, officials have not shared details of the DPR or the social impact study. We were kept completely in the dark, he lamented, calling the whole exercise an arbitrary move.
Those at the head of the current dispensation of Congress have previously assured that no forcible acquisition will take place without consultation, another member of the Association pointed out.
He alleged that the officials concerned finalized the compensation without consulting the property owners and unilaterally based it on values of government land well below the prevailing market rates.
Alleging irregularities in property valuations, he said, “The government has frozen property registrations in 2021 and is now calculating compensation based on the registration value of ₹2,100 per square yard. Even after tripling it, the amount remains unfair.”
“We request Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to intervene in this matter and ensure fair compensation,” a representative of the Association said in a statement issued here on Sunday (June 7).
