Parappa Block Panchayat in the district of Kasaragod has become the first aspiration block in the country to obtain approval from Niti Aayog for its brain health initiative, which is currently available in 12 aspiration districts across the country.
The program will provide subsequent treatment and therapy for Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, dementia and other brain -related disorders. While the district submitted a project worth 1 ₹ 1 crore, Niti Aayog was sanctioned 19 lakh.
In the next phase, training will be provided to medical officers, employees of the medical department and therapists, followed by the opening of the ambulatory department. The aim of this initiative is to improve the quality of life of patients with neurological disorders through therapies. Caragod, included in the aspiration block scheme, ensured the project after a special request of the district collector.
