'No VIP attitude': Shreyas Iyer, Tilak Varma wait in regular queue for dinner after Asian Games Gold in Japan | Viral Video

Fresh from leading Team India to a gold medal win at the 2026 Asian Games, captain Shreyas Iyer and vice-captain Tilak Varma are winning hearts on the internet for enjoying Japan without the “hype, superstar attitude”.

Team India on Saturday defended their gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, defeating arch-rivals Pakistan by 19 runs in the final.

‘No VIP Access’

In a wholesome viral video from a Tokyo-based Indian content creator going by ‘our.japan.diary’, the cricket stars were seen patiently queuing up for a regular dinner in Japan with no expectation of VIP treatment.

The viral video featured two Indian batters casually waiting for their turn at dinner and seamlessly blending in with the rest of the crowd. The content creator then approached the cricketers and they obliged him with signatures.

“Sometimes the biggest stars give you the simplest moments,” the content creator wrote in a caption that encapsulates the sentiment. “Seeing Shreyas Iyer and Tilak Varma patiently waiting in line for dinner like everyone else, even after winning the gold medal at the Asian Games, was such a healthy sight.”

Standing in the same queue as the cricket duo, the maker also highlighted the complete absence of any celebrity claim. “No VIP access, no special treatment – just two international cricketers casually waiting for their turn. It was such a special and unexpected experience for us to stand in the same queue as them.”

“Superstars on the field, ordinary people off the field,” he wrote at the end of the post.

The viral video has racked up over 29.7 million views since it was posted on Sunday night.

The content creator posted another video of the cricket duo casually strolling through the streets of Japan and wrote, “India just won the GOLD and Iyer & Tilak casually stroll the streets of Nagoya like it’s just another evening.”

“No hype. No superstar attitude. Just champions enjoying Japan after a massive win. From representing India on the field to being integrated into the crowd minutes later – moments like this were different,” he added.

Netizens react

The unexpected moment off the field is drawing widespread praise from players in the net and reminding fans that even the country’s greatest sporting heroes can remain remarkably grounded off the field.

Several users highlighted Iyer’s down-to-earth nature and work ethic. “Shreyas Iyer is truly an amazing person and a top professional,” wrote one user who followed the tournament closely. “From practice to match, he is always focused, serious and determined to give his best. It was really inspiring to see him up close.” Another fan confirmed his accessibility and added, “Bhaii Shreyash is the best, I took a picture with him a few months ago 😭🤌✨.”

Others pointed out Iyer’s signature candid expressions in the clip. “Shreyas is really shocked when a fan asks for an autograph,” one user commented, while another quipped, “You’re acting like a relative uncle getting caught 🤣.”

Meanwhile, many followers simply expressed envy at the creator’s luck at bumping into international stars during a casual dinner, with one user playfully commenting: “God’s favorite, I see 😭❤️.”
