Nearly 90 kg of ganja seized in Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram rural police seized 87.59 kg of ganja allegedly being transported from Andhra Pradesh to Kerala.

In an operation carried out under the anti-narcotics operation Toofan, the police arrested three people under Aryancode police station limits.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday (September 10, 2026), Thiruvananthapuram Rural Additional Superintendent of Police JK Dinil said ganja was seized from a car registered in Tamil Nadu during the raid. The police seized 40 packages, with each package containing nearly 2.2 kg of ganja.

Two persons, identified as Akhil and Sudheesh, were initially arrested. On detailed interrogation, the police reportedly learned that the consignment was brought to the district by Joby Jose, a notorious drug dealer based in Thiruvananthapuram. The investigation team subsequently arrested the habitual offender.

According to Mr. Dinil, Jose has been charged in 13 cases, including several cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Investigators suspect that the large shipment was meant for distribution through Thiruvananthapuram and other districts. Police also suspect that the drugs were to be delivered in smaller quantities to various locations, including schools and coastal and other sensitive areas.
