Asked if he regretted the Iran war because of the impact it might have on the election, he said in an interview with Fox News: “I don’t believe in the word ‘regret.’ You can always ask a little bit.” He added: “If I had it to do over again, I would do exactly what I did.” It comes as Washington has renewed attacks against Tehran, with the Islamic Republic retaliating with strikes on US bases in the Middle East.
Brent crude climbs to nearly $108 as Houthi-Saudi fighting escalates
Brent crude prices surged after fighting intensified between Yemen-based Houthi militants and Saudi-backed forces, raising fears of deeper supply disruptions as hostilities escalated across the Middle East. The global benchmark traded near $108 a barrel after rising more than six percent in the previous session, with futures on track for their biggest weekly gain since July. The Iran-backed Houthi rebel group seized control of the Yemeni port city of Mocha on Thursday and advanced toward the Red Sea coast toward strategic islands, hours after President Donald Trump said he expected the Iran war to end after the U.S. election. Reuters, citing military sources in the Yemeni government, said the rebel group had gained further influence over the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, the southern outlet of the Red Sea and one of the world’s most important sea routes, and had reached the Hanish Islands.

Iran’s parliament speaker and top negotiator with the US, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, on Friday voiced support for the “Yemeni people” after the capture of the strategic Red Sea city of Mocha Housya, citing past statements by slain Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Reacting to the development, Ghalibaf wrote in a post on X: “The brave Yemeni people will surely win, with the permission of almighty God.” He made the post while highlighting an earlier statement by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which read: “We hope, God willing, that the jihad of the people of #Yemen and their resistance and actions will continue until victory, with the permission of God Almighty.”
