The state committee of the Muslim Students Federation (MSF) has suspended its Kannur district officers who took charge a day earlier, citing violation of the organization’s constitution, which bars teachers from holding positions in the student body.
According to MSF management, the positions of district general secretary Ramshad KP and treasurer Anas Kottakattil were frozen as both were elected despite being employed as teachers. The state committee said the appointments were made “unconstitutionally”, prompting immediate action.
The move deepened friction between the MSF state leadership and the district leadership of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML). MSF claimed that the reorganization was done with the participation of IUML district president Abdul Kareem Cheleri. Earlier, Mr. Cheleri reportedly had disputes with MSF state secretary general Najaf, and the Najaf faction accused the league leadership of trying to take control of the MSF district committee.
Two members of the district committee have now been suspended as the dispute deepened. Meanwhile, the state leadership has reportedly offered a compromise formula. It was noted that persons holding teaching positions may be considered for these positions if they provide written assurance that they will take time off from their employment to engage in organizational work.
