In a daring daylight robbery, miscreants posing as IT officials allegedly intercepted a van carrying cash for ATMs, threatened the staff and escaped with cash estimated to be over ₹7 crore.
According to the police, the official vehicle was carrying cash from a private bank branch in JP Nagar when an SUV blocked its path. The accused allegedly claimed they needed to “verify documents” and forced the employees to cooperate.
The robbers then allegedly made the staff get into the car along with the tills and drove towards Dairy Circle. After arriving at the location, the gang abandoned the staff and fled with the money.
Special teams have been formed to launch a massive manhunt for the accused. Police scrutinized over 50 CCTV footages and alerted check posts on various routes.
Police said they obtained vital information from staff who were inside the van at the time of the incident.
They suspect that this is the work of insiders as the van driver allegedly delayed informing the police and gave a different version. It is also being investigated why the armed security personnel in the van did not use their weapons and resist.
“Police have deployed nakabandi across the city. Different teams have been formed and posted at different locations. While one team is monitoring the control room, another is analyzing the technical details,” said city police commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh.
