State Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister Ponguru Narayana has assured to solve all the major problems of the people of Nellore. Here on Monday, he laid the foundation stone for the construction of new road works at the Sunday Market and the flyover near the Atmakur bus stand in the city.
Addressing the media, he said the coalition government has come up with a permanent solution to the problems that exist during the rainy season at Sunday Market and Atmakur bus stand. The construction work on the Atmakur bus stand underbridge would be completed at a cost of ₹2 crore in 44 days, he said.
“Since Atmakur bus stand is a congested area, the road work on one side has been started in the first phase to avoid traffic problems. The road will be inaugurated on December 31 and the foundation stone for the ₹1 crore road work on the other side will be laid on the same day,” the minister said.
Similarly, the government will build a new road in the Sunday market, which often stagnates during the rainy season. Mr. Narayana said, “The local TDP leaders brought this to my attention and the main reason is blockage of drains. After field inspection, it was found that the main reason for water stagnation was encroachment on drains.”
“Traders and people alike are facing problems. Uyyala, Ramireddy, Mallappa and Gachu canals should be widened. For this, encroachments on the canals should be removed. If the encroachers cooperate, the civic staff will remove the silt in the canals to ensure that the rainwater drains smoothly and there is no chance of further stagnation of rainwater in the market,” he added.
